Namco Bandai Explains Ezio's Inclusion In Soul Calibur V

By now, it's well known in the gaming community that Ubisoft's popular character Ezio Auditore da Firenze of Assassin's Creed fame will be the guest character in Namco Bandai's upcoming fighter title Soulcalibur V.

"The development team really found a great partner and great character with Ubisoft and Ezio from Assassin's Creed," said Namco Bandai's Dennis Lee.

But Namco Bandai choosing Ezio wasn't an overnight descision. In fact, Lee says it was a rather long process and involved the consideration of entertainment properties from motion pictures, books, and television shows -- all in addition to from other video games.

"The team basically weeded out a lot of great ideas and a couple ideas that probably weren't all that hot," he explained. "But...the development team really fell in love with Ezio and the world of Assassin's Creed and how it just really fit as far as his play style."

Basic human curiosity played a large role in the ultimate decision to include Ubisoft's character in Soulcalibur V as many of the game's developers were simply curious as to how Ezio would fare against Soulcalibur's various characters.

From there, Namco Bandai approached Ubisoft and showed them the idea. In short, the French video game developer was all for it.

"The Ubisoft team was very excited to have Ezio into the Soulcalibur universe," claimed Lee. "What ended up happening was the character worked out really well and both Ubisoft's and our development teams are very happy with the outcome."
